SIG Quant Research Recruiter Interview Questions

What types of probability and dice-related questions are asked in SIG’s recruiter interviews?

You have three pancakes—one burnt on both sides, one burnt on one side, and one not burnt at all. They’re stacked with just a burnt side visible on top. What’s the probability that the double-burnt pancake ends up on top? Given three coin tosses, you get paid if exactly two heads appear (and lose otherwise). Calculate whether that bet is fair by computing the expected value.

You have three coins—a fair coin, one that always lands heads, and one that always lands tails. After selecting a random coin and observing heads, what’s the probability it was the “always‑heads” coin? A frog moves from (0,0) to (5,4), stepping only up or right, but can’t make three moves in the same direction consecutively. How many distinct paths exist?
