Congrats! I have two questions: What branch is this? How was the interview process for it? Were there two interviews? And how are the technical interviews? Do they require coding experience at all
q

This was the trading/research branch. The interview process was alright. Yes two technical interviews - no superday like the guide. Everything else was pretty accurate. The technical interview comprised of multi-step interview questions and brainteasers. 50 coin challenge was probably the most accurate. No coding experience.

Really? So it was all probability questions? Anything on your resume? And by branch I mean which office, Amsterdam? And was there a behavioural interview before the technicals?
q
quantraider • 83d ago
There were some brainteasers, as well as probability questions. I didn't have to do any market making or anything. My resume was relatively empty - certainly nothing quantitative finance related. Amsterdam, and yes, the first round consisted of a resume walkthrough and whether I was a good fit for the company and vice versa

That sounds cool, how long did the 2nd technical interview take? Do you know what the post-interview acceptance rate usually is? Did you get all the brainteasers and probability questions right? Did you use all the resources on everythingquant (all the interview questions ect) and did you use any other resources like the green book ect? When was the 2nd interview scheduled after the first? Did anyone get rejected after the 1st? How many questions do they expect you to get right on the 2nd?
q

The 2nd interview took around 30-45 minutes, but it goes quick when you're focused. The acceptance rate im not sure, but I believe 500-700 apply and around 40 get the position. There were 3 questions in the interview. I got 2/3 right, but I think they were looking for how you think about the questions, so getting them right was not as important. And yep, everythingquant was the bulk of my interview prep. And yes, a friend of mine got rejected from the behavioural round, somehow....

Sorry about the spam haha, I have a lot of questions. Did the 2nd interview go through anything on your resume? Did they grill you on any projects/experiences? Was the 2nd interview done by a trader? Do you remember any other questions other than the 50 coin? Do they ask the same questions for all the applicants at the Amsterdam branch? Thank you so much for answering btw
q
quantraider • 83d ago
No worries!!! In the 2nd interview they didn't speak about anything related to my resume/experiences, that was primarily in the first round. There was a bit of conversation about my values etc at the start but very brief and short. I can't remember exactly the question, one of them was pretty long and required use of a markov chain, which everythingquant has here (https://everythingquant.com/interview-prep/question-bank/) Im not too sure if they asked everyone the same questions.

Did they ask technical questions about your resume or was it more behavioural type questions? Say for example get into the specifics of a project or was it more of what you learned. And for the resume walkthrough, did they ask questions about every experience or was it just the ones they read previously? And as for the markov chain, is it one of the markov processes questions? Do you remember the one you didnt get correct? Were they more those optimization questions? Thank you so much!!

Also, what sort of behavioral company fit questions did they ask?
q
quantraider • 83d ago
Why did you apply to Optiver? What fascinates you about trading? What are your strengths/weakenesses? Give me an example of when you were in a bad situation (i.e. academic, sport etc) and what you did to get out of it? What values would your friends attribute to you? Give me an example of when you worked in a team, and what you learnt from collaboration (good and bad)?

Ah and this was after the resume walkthrough? Was the interview pretty informal as well?

Congrats! How long did you prepare for your interviews?
q
quantraider • 83d ago
Around 7-8 months. The brainteasers and interview questions really didn't stick with me at first. If you are smart you can probably be fully ready in 2-3 months of prep, but not for me :/
q
quant_throwaway • 82d ago
It takes 8 months to prepare?!!? I can't even stick to a diet for longer than 2 weeks lmao let alone prepare for an interview consistently

How were the brain teasers? Was the markov chain the only hard one? Was there optimization and all that? Thank you so much man this thread is so helpful
